VoiceThread is an online digital storytelling program that allows users to upload pictures or presentations then add a voice or video recording as commentary. Because it’s online it’s also very easy to share with individuals or your course. Per the VoiceThread site it “bridges the gap between real-time discussions and standard video lectures or online presentations. This makes VoiceThread the platform for teaching, learning, training, and collaborating, on-demand.” VoiceThread is also very easy to use, for both faculty and students.
The College of Charleston has purchased a university site license that is now integrated with OAKS. This license brings with it several benefits:
-
Faculty will be given, or upgraded to, a Pro license which will remove the 5 VoiceThread restriction on the free version.
-
Students will be given, or upgraded to, a Basic license which will also remove the 5 VoiceThread restriction of the free version.
-
All users can now access VoiceThread directly from within OAKS. If they have an existing VoiceThread account it will be associated with the CofC license. If they don’t have an account one will be automatically created for them.
-
Once in VoiceThread, any courses using it will display on the left for easy access to faculty and student created threads.

- presentations
